Canadian Breakaway Champion Bradi Whiteside Looks ahead to 2026

Fresh off a successful 2025 season that earned her both the season leader title and the Canadian Breakaway Roping Championship, Bradi Whiteside is kicking off the 2026 season with momentum.

With the 2026 Breakaway Roping season starting this weekend in Coleman and Taber we caught up with Whiteside to talk about the year behind her and where her focus is heading into this one.

For Whiteside, last season marked a step forward; one that came with both success and growth.

“2025 was my best season yet and I’m so grateful for all the success and learning experience I had. One thing I look back on, I am most proud of my horses, every time they both gave me a chance to do good and I just had to do my job.”

While results followed, the season didn't come without challenges.

“The start to my season was a little rough but once I got things rolling at Grande Prairie it helped me a lot!”

As things began to click, consistency followed. Consistency established by strong horses.

“I couldn’t do it without Teacher and Rico. Rico is my young horse and last year was the first year he went to some rodeos and he always gave me a chance when I rode him.”

That trust in her horses and program continues to shape her approach, keeping things simple and focused as she looks ahead.

“My mindset is usually always the same year to year, I’m just going to take it one rodeo at a time and do the best I can with the opportunities I am given.”

And when things don't go her way, her perspective stays grounded.

“There is always another rodeo to go to!”

Competing in both the breakaway roping and barrel racing, Whiteside carries that same mindset across both events, adjusting as she needs to get the job done.

“I believe my mindset is the same. I usually just shift my focus from each event to what I have to do.”

Heading into the 2026 season, her focus remains rooted in the fundamentals.

“I always want to work on my roping and scoring to do the best I can.”

When asked what she wants to be able to say about her 2026 season at the end of the year, Whiteside points to the people behind it.
“I would say that I’m so thankful for all my family and sponsors that help me be able to do what I love.”

As the 2026 season gets underway, Whiteside is one to watch, and we’ll be keeping up with her as the year plays out.
